Marc S. Byrnes, Chairman
Marc S. Byrnes is Chairman of Oswald Companies. Under Mr. Byrnes’ leadership, the nearly 120-year employee-owned (ESOP) company has enjoyed significant growth and recently strengthened its position among the top 55 largest insurance brokers in the United States. The firm is also ranked among the elite top 10 privately held brokers in the country specializing in employee benefits and financial services which was founded by Marc when his agency merged with Oswald in 1987.
Mr. Byrnes is nationally recognized for his experience in the areas of executive benefits, compensation and risk management with a broad knowledge of M&A, investment banking and private equity consulting experience in both the private and publicly held corporate sectors, domestically and globally. His lectures and public speaking engagements have energized audiences in over 35 states.
A fixture in the Northeast Ohio civic community, Marc currently serves as Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Cleveland Leadership Center, the preeminent organization for civic education of civic leaders; Donor Chairman for the United Way of Greater Cleveland’ Board of Directors, Co-Chair of the 2008-2009 campaign and was named the 2011 United Way Volunteer of the Year. Marc is a member of University School’s Board/Executive Committee; JCB Bellfaire Board and Jewish Community Federation Board.
In addition, Marc serves as a Board Advisor to MAI Wealth, Public Square Partners, US Bank, and Tailwind Capital; and both Crain’s Cleveland and Inside Business include Marc among the 100 most influential leaders in the Cleveland community. Marc is President of the 50 Club of Cleveland, the city’s largest leading business society.
A 1972 graduate of University School, Marc earned his B.A. at Williams College in 1976. Marc and his wife, Viki have three sons, Matthew, Kyle and Gregory.
Robert J. Klonk, Chief Executive Officer
With more than 30 years of Benefits and Risk Management experience, Mr. Klonk specializes in strategic guidance and development of innovative Group Health and Risk Management programs. Mr. Klonk has developed several national group purchasing programs and preferred risk pools which incorporate many innovative risk reduction strategies that consistently beat market trends and pricing.
Mr. Klonk has dedicated many years of service to advance his industry and currently serves on the Board of Assurex Global, the Board of The Council of Insurance Agents & Brokers (C.I.A.B), and chairs The Council of Employee Benefits Executives in Washington D.C. As co-chair of the C.I.A.B. Political Action Committee, Mr. Klonk meets frequently with legislators to lobby on behalf of his industry and the employers we represent.
Mr. Klonk speaks often as an industry expert on Health Care Reform and serves on the Board of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, as well as Business Volunteers Unlimited (BVU).
David C. Jacobs, President & Chief Operating Officer
As President and Chief Operating Officer of Oswald, Mr. Jacobs is dedicated to managing Oswald’s services and support capabilities including strategic leadership of all practices, human resources, training and information services, technology, and branch operations. A veteran of the insurance industry with more than 20 years experience, Mr. Jacobs has developed many new markets for Oswald that provide more specialty products and services for our clients while also managing executive interaction and strategy with all insurance companies.
Prior to joining Oswald in 2000, Dave was the Regional Vice President of AIG’s Great Lakes Regional office in Cleveland.
A graduate of The Ohio State University, Mr. Jacobs chairs the board of The MetroHealth Foundation and serves on the board of the Greater Cleveland Film Commission and the PlayhouseSquare Foundation. David is also a Leadership Cleveland Alumni.
Joseph DuBois, Chief Financial Officer
After a long and successful career with Nationwide Insurance, Mr. DuBois joined Oswald in 2008. In addition to his financial management responsibilities, Mr. DuBois oversees human resources, operational processing, and corporate administration. He spends much of his time in the development and execution of Oswald’s strategic planning process.
A graduate of Iowa State University with nearly 20 years of experience in the insurance industry, Mr. DuBois is a certified public accountant and an active member of both the AICPA and the Ohio Society of CPAs.
He currently sits on the board of Junior Achievement of Greater Cleveland, serves as the Finance Committee Chair of Vocational Guidance Services, and is on the finance council of St. Mary Church in Chardon. Joseph is also a Leadership Cleveland Alumni.
