Robert J. Klonk, CEO at Oswald Companies, has been elected as chair by the Northeast Ohio Medical University. This appointment was officially announced on Sept. 13, 2017 at the University’s quarterly Board of Trustees meeting.
Klonk served on the board since December 2013 and as the vice chair before being named to his new role.
His demonstrated history of working in investments and the health care industry plays a key factor in NEOMED’s ability to provide quality and affordable health care education to its University.
“Northeast Ohio Medical University will benefit greatly by having Robert Klonk as the chair of the Board of Trustees,” said Jay A. Gershen, D.D.S., Ph.D., president of NEOMED. “His expertise, knowledge of health care reform and success in business will assist in leading the University to new heights.”
The Northeast Ohio Medical University is a public, community-based medical university and academic health center with a mission to improve the health and economy of Northeast Ohio. Robert J. Klonk is Chief Executive Officer of Oswald Companies, one of the nation’s largest privately held and employee-owned, insurance brokerage and risk management consulting firms. Klonk has more than 30 years of industry experience, previously serving as Oswald’s Director of Group Benefits and President, before assuming the duties of Chief Executive Officer in 2013.
Throughout his tenure he has demonstrated a steadfast commitment to the advancement and sustainability of the insurance industry at-large, and specifically as an advocate for the critical role of the independent broker and advisor. He currently serves as a board member of Assurex Global, an exclusive Partnership of the most prominent independent agents and brokers in the world.
Klonk currently serves as a board member of the Council of Insurance Agents & Brokers (CIAB), with previous service in this role from 2009-2015, in addition to serving as past chairman of The Council of Employee Benefits Executives in Washington D.C., and Council PAC, a Political Action Committee that serves the broker community and employers.
In addition, he exemplifies Oswald’s mission of “Commitment to Community,” serving on the boards of The Greater Cleveland Sports Commission, Business Volunteers Unlimited and the Cleveland Leadership Center, among various board appointments and leadership positions he has held with nonprofits throughout his career.
