Data Used to Create Wellness Program and Increase Participation: A Case Study
Problem
A public sector client was not happy with its existing wellness partner, so Oswald was hired to create a better program that would encourage wellness across the organization.
Their goal was to create awareness and engagement around wellness, both physically and emotionally.
Solution
Oswald took a deep dive into the organization to determine its needs. We found that, with employees in multiple locations, their supportive culture already kept wellness visible and top-of-mind by encouraging employees to be stakeholders in their wellness program.
The Wellness+ team developed a collaborative, three-year wellness strategy that was data-driven and focused on areas of opportunity identified through claims and input from the client’s wellness committee.
Oswald tailored wellness program activities further to meet employees’ interests and health goals. This opened opportunities for employees to engage in activities (e.g., challenges, programs, events) that they found exciting and showed that they were actively involved in the design of their wellness program.
By introducing employee surveys, Oswald received candid feedback on how the program was received. Some volunteered to be ambassadors for certain promotional activities and responsibilities.
Lastly, to ensure efforts reached all employees at each location, Oswald helped develop and implement a multi-medium communication strategy, including email communications, printed materials, messaging through digital portals/platforms, and in-person communication at group meetings.
Result
Engagement in the wellness program increased by 25% in just one year.
The second phase of our strategy focuses on continued engagement and picking metrics on which to focus, such as an increase in preventive visits, better insurance use, site of care, in-network providers, and generic drugs.
