Problem

A publicly traded fast-food restaurant chain with more than 100,000 employees and nearly 7000 restaurants had been an Oswald Loss Control client for several years, in which Oswald provided overarching business impact analysis, business continuity planning, and development of an emergency management life safety plan.

However, as the Securities and Exchange Commission increased regulations on business continuity and cybersecurity for public companies, the client sought additional assistance from external specialists in the field.

Oswald’s partners on the company’s risk management and health and safety teams put the broker in touch with the IT team.

The IT team was migrating a lot of the company’s applications to cloud-based systems for enhanced protection. The IT operations identified that the organization lacked a comprehensive business continuity program, which is necessary to successfully overcome potential a business interruption event such as cyber interruption.

Solution

A significant amount of due diligence is required when working with public companies.

Oswald had to provide proof of its own security systems, background, and cyber insurance. The fast-food operator needed to confirm that its information was safe with Oswald.

Once security protocols for Oswald were proven, Oswald began the discovery process to build the client’s first business continuity program.

As part of our business impact analysis, our specialists will identify all functions across the company and what is needed to recover each in a timely manner if a business interruption incident occurs.

This data will be used to create the business continuity program, which will serve as a guide to help the IT department recover functions and applications after a major event.

Oswald will create and implement tailored tabletop exercises to train the staff on how to use the business continuity program to maintain technical operations at the headquarters when compromised.

Result

Oswald’s partnership with this client has increased significantly, making it easier to create a more robust and comprehensive business continuity plan.
