Oswald Helps Client Improve Network Access, Reduce Costs and Enhance Employee Benefits: A Case Study
Problem
A transportation client with more than 100 full-time enrolled employees had been operating within a professional employer organization (PEO) model for several renewal cycles, with its health insurance embedded in that structure. The client was utilizing a broad network but consistently faced challenges finding in-network providers across the state. Compounding the issue, the client received minimal strategic guidance from its human capital management platform throughout the year and lacked a clear roadmap going into renewals. The client expressed a need for stronger employee communication, better program support and greater flexibility.
Solution
After meeting with the client’s finance and HR teams, Oswald quickly identified opportunities for improved control and visibility over their benefits strategy. We also discussed the potential advantages of transitioning out of the PEO model, which included broader market access, better risk management and more sustainable long-term solutions.
Following a series of collaborative conversations, the client felt confident that Oswald could deliver the support and results they were seeking. We took the group to market and transitioned them to a fully-insured program within our preferred risk pool – one we’ve successfully partnered on with Anthem for over 25 years.
Result
The results were significant. The client improved network access for employees, enhanced the overall experience, and implemented a clear three- to five-year strategic roadmap, all while reducing annual benefits spend by $376,000, a 19% savings.
The move to Oswald not only provided the tailored support the client was looking for but also opened the door to programs and partnerships that were previously unavailable under the PEO structure.
