The United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is reminding employers to submit Tier II forms by March 1, 2015.  It is required under Section 312 of the Emergency Planning and Community Right-to-Know Act of 1986 (EPCRA).

The form was designed to provide State and local officials (and the public) with information on the general hazard types and locations of hazardous chemicals present at your facility throughout 2014.

Common hazardous substances include: propane, diesel, ammonia and battery acid. A common chemical is in the battery acid found in batteries. A facility with as few as two forklifts can meet the reporting requirement.

Who Must Report?
If your facility is covered under OSHA’s Hazard Communication Standard, you must prepare or have available safety data sheets (SDSs) for one or more hazardous chemicals.

The reporting chemical threshold quantities are different dependent on how hazardous the chemical is. In most cases, its 10,000 pounds, however, the Threshold Planning Quantity (TPQ) of an Extremely Hazardous Substance (EHS) requires reporting for a much smaller threshold.
