Refreshed Wellness Program Boosts Employee Engagement: A Case Study
Problem
A commercial real estate company had an incentive-based program that rewarded employees for going to their physician, being tobacco-free, and providing choices to learn and participate in mutually essential activities.
The company highly valued preventive screening and early detection, and they wanted to provide additional resources for employees when they were ready to apply what they learned from preventive care to their daily lives. The company wanted employees to be part of the solution.
Solution
Oswald worked within our 90-day implementation period to gather and analyze historical data, and to conduct focus groups and surveys to understand the client’s needs.
Being tobacco-free was only a piece of the puzzle to help employees improve their physical and emotional health. The company wanted to encourage employees to make the necessary behavioral changes on their journeys and increase their quality of life.
The Wellness+ team determined that the necessary resources and programming were already in place; the program just needed to be refreshed.
Communication was critical. A full-fledged educational campaign targeting employees and spouses was deployed, utilizing multiple mediums to educate members about the resources available and the opportunities to earn additional out-of-pocket savings.
Employees were given choices on how to reach their incentives in areas such as volunteering, financial planning, wellness challenges, health care education, healthy lifestyle goals, and action planning.
Result
Program engagement increased by 10% to 84% overall.
From a claims perspective, the number of unnecessary ER visits decreased by 24% in the following year by emphasizing preventive care, telehealth visits, and education.
