A lot can happen over a decade, and Oswald has witnessed the changes in the Cincinnati region as it celebrates 10 years in the city. Moira Lyon, Oswald’s Cincinnati market president, looks back on how the region has grown and prospered in that time and looks forward to what is in store for the coming years.

Lyon has more than 20 years of experience in the insurance industry and in 2014, was tapped to open Oswald’s Cincinnati office. She loves giving back to her community by serving on the boards of United Way of Greater Cincinnati Foundation and Kenwood Country Club. She is also co-chair of the board of United Way Tocqueville Society.

How has the Cincinnati market changed in 10 years?

It has been exciting to watch the tri-state region grow tremendously. The population of the region has gone up by about 100,000 alone in that time. There are many new startups taking advantage of all the resources the region has to offer and established companies continue to grow. It is fascinating to watch and help these businesses achieve their goals.

What do you admire most about Cincinnati?

Everyone I meet has such pride in the cities where they work and call home. It resonates when they come downtown for Reds or Bengals game, art performance or personal celebration at a local venue. I can be at dinner with colleagues, friends or even someone I have just met and they boast about how great it is to live in Cincinnati. I completely understand because I feel the same way. We are very fortunate to live in a city that is so rich in culture and community.

What makes Cincinnati unique?

I love the drive coming into the city. Whether you are coming from a northern suburb or coming over the river from Kentucky, the skyline is highlighted behind the rolling hills. The beauty of the skyline is even more impressive at night when all the buildings are lit up; the city becomes magnetic.

Why is Cincinnati the right fit for Oswald?

A pillar of Oswald’s goal is “Commitment to Community” which aligns similarly to the Tristate. Our team brings that to life every day through volunteering, supporting philanthropic organizations and participating in events that are meaningful to local residents.

Cincinnatians share this commitment to making our region a better place to live, work and play. They never hesitate to roll up their sleeves for a good cause.

How has Cincinnati helped Oswald succeed?

The community embraced Oswald from the start. We knew with the turnover and sale of many key insurance agencies that it was the right time for Oswald’s independent structure to be valued by the community. Our employee ownership differentiates our client experience and our clients continue to feel the choice and control collaboration they receive as a client.

We are so grateful for that warm welcome that continues 10 years later.

What is your favorite thing about being part of the Cincinnati business community?

I love how the business community comes together as one to make a difference. We all realize that our business is only as strong as our community, so we all collaborate to make sure the region’s needs are a top priority.

I see the impact every day as I sit on nonprofit boards, engage in the community, attend events and visit clients. It is a remarkable feeling to know we are all rowing in the same direction together.

What are you looking forward to in the next 10 years in the Cincinnati market?

I cannot wait to see what is on the horizon for the city and the region. There are so many promising opportunities in the pipeline. Oswald will be here to assess the risks of growth and expansion and protect all the things that mean the most to our clients — for their life and for their business.

Thank you, Cincinnati, for welcoming Oswald. We look forward to serving you for many decades to come.
