Oswald Companies, a full-service risk management and employee benefits brokerage firm in Bloomfield Hills, was recently recognized as a “2020 Make More Happen Awards” honoree, presented by Liberty Mutual and Safeco Insurance. The award recognizes our Michigan office’s volunteer work with Pope Francis Center, a nonprofit organization providing life-saving services with love and dignity for the homeless in downtown Detroit, and includes a $10,000 donation that will directly benefit them.

Cathy Kosin, Market Leader of Oswald Companies’ Michigan branch, first became involved with the Pope Francis Center two years ago. Since then, she and her team have not missed a month of volunteering their services. which includes preparing and serving food, collecting donations, distributing essential items, laundering clothes, participating in fundraisers and more.

The center provides hot meals, showers, hygiene and clothing items, laundry access, legal advice, medical care and much more to Detroit’s homeless and underserved populations. The $10,000 donation will be used in a variety of ways to support these services including hot meals, hot showers, and electricity for one month, along with enhancing their meditation space and new fitness and recreation equipment.

“Pope Francis Center isn’t just meeting the physical needs of those who have been forgotten. They are also supporting them emotionally, and we are happy to support them without judgement,” said Kosin. “Because we feel so personally committed to Pope Francis Center, we are truly grateful to Liberty Mutual and Safeco for the Make More Happen Award. It is an incredible opportunity for our community to work together to provide Pope Francis Center with the much-needed funds to support their important work.”
